Household bleach vs pool chlorine: Bleach works in a pinch, but pool chlorine is better for regular use

Both are sodium hypochlorite, but pool chlorine is more concentrated (10-12% vs 6-8.25%). Additives in scented or splash-less bleach can mess with pool chemistry. For emergencies, grab plain unscented bleach and do the math—8 oz of 6% per 1000 gallons raises chlorine by about 0.5 ppm. But proper pool chlorine is still the safer bet.
