Hard-sided coolers vs soft-sided coolers: Hard wins for long beach days, soft for quick trips

Hard-sided coolers keep ice frozen 12–24 hours in direct sun, but they’re heavy and awkward on sand. Soft-sided coolers are lighter and easier to carry, but ice melts in 3–4 hours and they crush easily. For a full beach day with drinks at sunset, go hard. For a quick dip with a sandwich, soft is fine.
