Most of Giant Steps was cut with Tommy Flanagan’s trio, but “Naima” was recorded seven months later with Wynton Kelly, Paul Chambers, and Jimmy Cobb — Miles Davis’s rhythm section. That change gave the track a noticeably lighter, more laid-back touch compared to the rest of the album.
