Battery-powered cooler vs passive cooler: Battery works for short trips, but ice still wins for multi-day cold-holding

A passive cooler with ice plus a battery pack only keeps ice frozen longer—it doesn’t actively cool. An active cooler (thermoelectric or compressor) plugged into a battery pack can hold safe temps for hours, but drain is real: thermoelectric struggles in heat and drains a 100Ah battery in 8–12 hours, while compressor coolers (Dometic, Iceco) are better but cost more. For a day trip, fine; for multi-day camping, bring backup ice or a generator—a good cooler with block ice still beats a battery-powered thermoelectric for pure cold-holding.
